Even with the insane popularity of online messaging apps, we still use our regular Text messaging app for a variety of reasons.
And not to forget their importance in a situation where there is no active Internet connection.
But wait! This article is not about the advantages of text messages. It is about recovering deleted text messages.
So you deleted a few text messages and later realized how important they were and you were supposed to keep it on your phone for future use?
Before you go crazy and start cursing yourself, let me tell you that you can recover deleted texts. You can get back those important texts.
There are a plethora of tools available on the Internet which claims to recover deleted texts. And most of those tools work only if you have a rooted Android device.
But there is a tool which can help you in recovering text messages if you do not have a rooted Android device.

How to Recover Deleted Texts on
Unrooted Android Device?
Let me be honest first. It is really difficult to recover deleted messages from an Android device.
You need to have a Rooted Android phone.
So what about those who do not have root access on their phones? How are they going to recover lost text messages?
Enter Dr.Fone Toolkit for Android.

Step 1: Head over to this link and download Dr. Fone Toolkit for Android. Once the download is finished, Install the exe file.
Step 2: On your phone, you need to enable USB Debugging / Android Debugging. Here’s how you can do it:
- Head over to your phone’s Settings, scroll down to the bottom and tap on About.
- Scroll till you find Build or Build Number. Tap on it 7 times repeatedly.
- Go back and you shall find Developer Options on the main page of the Settings.
- Tap on Developer Options. Scroll down a bit and you’ll find USB Debugging or Android Debugging. Turn it on.
Once USB Debugging is enabled on your phone, Connect your Android device to the PC with the help of a USB Cable.
Step 3: After connecting the device to the Computer, launch the installed Dr. Fone Toolkit for Android application on your computer. Click on Data Recovery.
Step 4: Wait for a few moments till the application downloads the necessary files. Once done. you’ll notice a ‘Tick-Mark’ at the bottom of Data Recover icon. Click on Data Recovery again.
Step 5: You’ll see a pop-up on your device for Allowing USB Debugging. Tap on OK. The application will start determining the connection of your PC with your Android.
Step 6: On the next window, select Messaging and then click Next.
Step 7: This step is very important because here you’ll know how is it possible for Dr. Fone Toolkit to recover deleted texts from a phone which does not have root access.
To recover messages, Dr. Fone Toolkit will temporarily Root your device. That’s because it is not possible to recover messages without accessing the root of your Android.
However, once the recovering is done, your device will no longer be a rooted device. And yes, it will not void your warranty.
Click Start after you’ve considered all these points.
Step 8: Give the application a few minutes. During this time, the application will analyze your device and will root your device temporarily.
Step 9: Next, select Scan for Deleted Files under Standard Mode. It takes less time as compared to other options which is ‘Scan for All files’. After you’ve made your choice, click Next.
Step 10: The application will start scanning your device. After a few minutes of scanning, you can recover your text messages after clicking on Recover. All of your messages, which you chose to recover, will get exported to your computer.
That’s it!
What if the above method doesn’t work?
If for any reason, the above method doesn’t go in your favor, then you are left with only one option.
You will have to Root your Android device.

After you’ve successfully Rooted your Android, go through all of the above-mentioned steps again. The procedure is same but with one difference. In Step 9, select Advanced Mode instead of Standard Mode.
How To Not Lose Text Messages Ever Again?
We learn from our mistakes. Not taking backups of important text messages is indeed a mistake.
And not only text messages, we should keep a backup of everything possible which is important to us.
But since here we are talking only about texts, I’ll talk about the best way to keep backups of your important Text messages.
You can do that easily with the help of an app.
There are a great number of apps in the Play Store with the help of which you can easily create backups of your Text Messages and Recover them whenever and wherever you want.
I’ll be talking about one such app, which is Super Backup & Restore.
Here’s how you can take a backup of your text messages using Super Backup & Restore.
1. Download and Install Super Backup & Restore from the Google Play Store.
2. Open the app once the download is finished.
3. Tap on SMS.
Note that you can also backup other things too like Apps, Pictures, Contacts and Call Logs.
4. Now tap on BACKUP ALL.
5. Rename the xml, if you want to, and then tap on OK.
6. The app will start creating a backup file of your texts. It will take only a couple of seconds.
That’s it
Now to Restore the backed up text messages, Open the app, tap on SMS and then tap on Restore. Chose the backup xml file and tap on OK.
