How to Send Images on WhatsApp Without Losing its Quality

Send images on whatsapp without losing its quality

WhatsApp is, unarguably, the most popular messaging app in the world. But that doesn’t mean the app is deprived of any drawbacks.

One of the drawbacks, which we are going to talk about here, is image compression.

Whenever we try sending an image to a contact through WhatsApp, it compresses that image before it is being sent to the receiver. As a result of the compression, the image loses its quality (or resolution) by a fair margin.

Yes, you can argue that WhatsApp does that for faster transfer of images but this particular habit of WhatsApp can be really annoying for people who are obsessed with the quality of images. And the least WhatsApp can do is give the users an option to choose whether they want to compress the images or not. Probably in a future update.

God knows when we will see such kind of update but as far as this issue of compression is concerned, I do have a solution. Actually, I have three.

So If compressed images are an issue for you, then you should read out this article.

How to Send Images on WhatsApp Without Losing its Quality?

Like I said, there are three ways by which you can send images on WhatsApp without losing the image quality i.e without the compression.

Method #1: Sending the Image as a Document

Step 1: The first step is very basic. Launch WhatsApp and Open your friend’s Chat window.

Step 2: Right at the bottom of the screen, tap on the, very familiar, paperclip icon.

Now, from the opened dialog box, instead of tapping on ‘Gallery’ or ‘Camera’, tap on Document.

Step 3: Tap on ‘Browse other docs…’.

If the image, which you want to send, was taken recently or was copied to your device recently, you’ll find it right there under Recents. Or else you’ll have to browse the file explorer to find the image.

Step 4: Tap on the image and then tap on Send.

That’s it.

Take a look at the size of the file (which is actually an image). There was no compression and thus, the image retains its original quality.

Method #2: Archive and Send

This method comes in very handy in case you want to transfer a good number of images to a friend. Archive them and send them as one file.

Step 1: In order to archive images, you need to have a file manager like ES File Explorer which can create zip files. Alternatively, you can try ZArchiver, which is an archive management app.

Download ES File Explorer

Download ZArchiver

For the purpose of this article, I’ll be using ES File Explorer.

Step 2: The next step is to archive all the images you want to send.

Open ES File Explorer or ZArchiver, as the case may be. Locate and select all the images that you want to send. Once you’ve selected the images, you’ll find a three-dot button at the bottom-right corner of your screen. Tap on it and then tap on ‘Compress’.

Step 3: Give a name to the file, select archive type and compression level. Tap OK.

Depending on the size and number of the images, it will take a few moments to create the zip file.

Once the zip file is created, you can follow the steps mentioned in Method #1 to send it as a document.

After you’ve sent it, your friend will have to extract zip file in order to view the images.

That’s it.

Method #3: Through Google Drive

Step 1: Head over to the Google Play Store and install Google Drive on your phone, if you don’t have it on your phone already.

Download Google Drive

Step 2: Now, you need to add the image to your Google Drive. Dive into your phone’s gallery, select the image and tap on the Share icon.

Next, tap on Save to Drive.

Step 4: Once the image is uploaded, open the Google Drive app and tap on the three-dots at the bottom of the image.

Turn on Link Sharing and then tap on Copy Link.

Step 5: Send the copied link to your friend through WhatsApp.

All that your friend needs to do is open the link in a browser and tap on the Download icon found at the top right corner of the screen.

That’s it.

There you have it. Three easy ways to Send Images on WhatsApp without compression, without compromising the image’s resolution.
