Xiaomi has unveiled a concept phone (which is actually real) called Mi MIX with, literally, no bezels. The upcoming phablet features a 91.3 % screen-to-body ratio. Xiaomi has gone away with the edges at the top and sides with Mi MIX keeping the bottom just for the front camera’s sake.
Designed by the legend, Philippe Starck, Mi MIX has a ceramic unibody and sports a striking 6.4 inches display. It is believed to be one of the best-looking smartphone ever made which will make its way to the market. It will go on sale in China on November 4.
Apart from its gorgeous design, It has some great hardware under its hood. It includes a 4,400mAh battery, Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, a 16 Megapixel rear and a 5 Megapixel Front shooter.
Mi MIX is a step in the right direction for Xiaomi. Xiaomi was believed to be the one whose phones’ designs were heavily inspired from that of other manufacturer’s. But Xiaomi is trying to change its image with MIX.
After looking at the phone some might ask, “Where did the earpiece and Proximity Sensor go?” To accommodate the earpiece, Xiaomi is using “piezoelectric ceramic actuator” to deliver voice calls to your ears and is using ultrasound sensor to replace the Proximity sensor. The Front camera is at the bottom.
The phone will come in two models. One will have 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of onboard storage at a price point of RMB 3,499 ($516 or ₹34,500). A premium 18-karat gold version will be up for sale with 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of onboard storage at a price point of RMB 3,999 ($590 or ₹39,400). The bad news is that it will be available only in China.
Xiaomi also announced Xiaomi Mi Note 2 in the same Beijing event. The phablet, which looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, has a dual-edged display.

Mi MIX definitely sounds very interesting and intriguing due to its “edgeless” design. Unique design and great specs might prove to be the game-changer for Xiaomi. Its limited availability will certainly be disappointing for many but we can hope that Xiaomi carries over the “edgeless” design to its other phones as well.
